Why I Started a Blog

When I was kicked off Twitter, for reasons that have more to do with Twitter’s politics than anything else, I had to rethink my whole communication strategy. Leaving Twitter was an opportunity to consider what I could NOT do on Twitter.

One thing I could NOT do on Twitter was develop a thought beyond 280 characters, without turning it into part of a “thread.” Twitter was all about bite sizes, for easy and quick consumption. But what about complex issues that require complex and nuanced arguments? How do you do that justice in a handful of tweets?

Another thing I could NOT do on Twitter was to say exactly what I thought about an issue, without fearing the wrath of an infantile censor that acted more like an irascible child than a responsible adult. Even being circumspect and extremely restrained, my Twitter account was periodically “locked” until it was eventually suspended for good. Even if I was allowed back into the Twitter club, I could never go back to Twitter and speak my mind freely there. So here goes… Tune in as I tell you what I REALLY think about what is going on in this topsy-turvy world…
